Shushil Chandra to become Chief Election Commissioner

The government has got the president’s permission regarding this order. Notification for the Chief Election Commissioner will be issued today from the government. Today is the last day of the tenure of the current Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora.

In the tradition of appointing the most senior commissioner as the Chief Election Commissioner, the government has approved his name for the top post in the ‘Election House’.

Chandra will take over on 13 April. Currently, the outgoing CEC Sunil Arora is carrying out this responsibility.

Earlier, Sunil Arora was playing the responsibility of the post of CEC. Now Sushil Chandra will be posted this post. This term of his will be till 14 May 2022. Chandra was appointed Election Commissioner on 14 February 2019.

Now he is going to be a CEC. Prior to joining the Election Commission, Chandra was the chairman of CBDT.

It is known that the Election Commission under Sushil Chandra will conduct assembly elections in Manipur, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and UP. The tenure of the assemblies of these states is being completed on different dates in March next year. Like, the term of the UP Legislative Assembly is being completed on May 14 next year.
