SIR 2025: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has remarked she will personally sit on a dharna if even a single eligible voter’s name was struck off from the voter list.
She added we have a home minister in the country today that wants to label all Bengalis as Bangladeshi and send them to detention camps. The Bengal CM said their government knows well how to bring someone back even if they are forced out of the country. She added the Election Commission of India was deploying officers who were aligned with the Bhartiya Janta Party to influence the process.
Why Has Bengal CM Threatened To Sit On A Dharna?
The Bengal CM is protesting against the nationwide implementation of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) that will help maintain the integrity of the electoral roll. It will ensure that all eligible and legal residents of India are included in the electoral rolls while illegal citizens don’t find a place in the electoral rolls.
The Bengal CM without referencing the now-suspended MLA Humayun Kabir said traitors take money from BJP to stoke communal tensions in Murshidabad. Kabir had urged Muslims and others to join him in laying the foundation stone of Babri Masjid in Murshidabad on December 6.
President’s Rule Lie Told
She also said the BJP government would have imposed the President’s Rule in the state had she not agreed with the Special Intensive Revision. She urged people not to get afraid of SIR and submit their documents.
Mamata Banerjee also added she will not allow National Register of Citizens (NRC) or any detention camp in the State. She added Bengal will not allow any detention camp even if BJP cuts her throat.
