Team Thackeray alleged Election Body says they are biased

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has written a letter to the Election Commission (ECI) alleging that he has been discriminated against in giving election symbols. According to reports, Uddhav Thackeray has spoken in 12 points in the letter. It is being told that in these 12 points, he has made serious allegations against the Election Commission.

The Election Commission had given the election symbol ‘burning torch’ to the Uddhav Thackeray faction to contest the Andheri East by-election. Apart from this, he was allotted the name ‘Shiv Sena- Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’ for the party. At the same time, Eknath Shinde faction has been allotted the election symbol ‘Talvar-Shield’ and the name of the party ‘Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena’. In the matter of who will have the right over the name and symbol of Shiv Sena, the Election Commission has currently allotted alternate names and symbols of the party to Thackeray and Shinde faction under the interim decision. For this, the commission had sought suggestions from both the groups. Recently, the Supreme Court had handed over the matter to the Election Commission.

Uddhav Thackeray has accused the Election Commission of leaning towards the Shinde faction. The Thackeray faction alleges that the Election Commission had put its suggested names and symbols on its website before the list containing the names and symbols of the Shinde faction party, giving the Shinde faction an opportunity to copy the suggestions.
The Thackeray faction alleges that the name and symbol of the party suggested by him has been chosen by the Shinde faction. The Thackeray faction has also alleged that the content was later deleted from the website of the Election Commission. The Thackeray faction has written in the letter that none of the names and symbols suggested by the Shinde faction were uploaded on the website of the Election Commission. The Thackeray faction has alleged that like his choice, the Shinde faction also submitted its choice, due to which the name and symbol of his choice could not be allotted to the Thackeray camp.

Andheri East by-election

After the announcement of the by-election for the Andheri East assembly seat, the Shinde faction had urged the Election Commission to take an early decision on the name and symbol of the party. On October 3, the Election Commission of India had announced the dates for the by-elections to seven assembly seats in six states. These include the Andheri East seat of Mumbai. Polling for these seats will be held on November 3 and the results will be declared on November 6.
