‘Unscientific method’: Central government bids on India’s slip in global hunger index

The reaction of the Central Government has come on India’s ‘slip’ in the Global Hunger Index 2021. On Friday, the government claimed that the method adopted for the assessment of hunger is unscientific. Significantly, India has slipped significantly this year in the Global Hunger Index 2021.

In the report to be released on the status of hunger around the world, the situation of starvation in India remains worrying and it has also lagged behind Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. India has slipped to the 101st position in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2021 of 116 countries. In this case, it is behind its neighboring countries Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. India was ranked 94th in the year 2020.

The report, jointly prepared by Concern Worldwide, an Irish-based aid agency, and Welt Hunger Hilf, a German organization, described the level of hunger in India as ‘alarming’. In the year 2020, India was ranked 94th out of 107 countries. Now it has come to 101st place out of 116 countries.
