Women MPs Walk Out of Rajya Sabha in Protest Against Ranjan Gogoi's Maiden Speech Amidst Harassment Allegations

During the discussion on the Delhi Service Bill in the Rajya Sabha on Monday (August 7), MP and former CJI Ranjan Gogoi has supported the bill. He said that the bill is right for me. Members keep their vote according to the party.

He said that it is wrong to say that this matter is pending in the court and a bill cannot come in the house on this. What is pending before the Supreme Court is the validity of the ordinance, and two questions have been referred to a constitution bench and have nothing to do with the debate in the House. Gogoi said that the bill is completely legal.

What else did Ranjan Gogoi say?

Ranjan Gogoi said that the state in which the ordinance of the Center is today cannot be called an encroachment against the decision of the Supreme Court. Parliament has the right to make laws for union territories like Delhi.

Bill passed by Lok Sabha

In May, the Center had issued this ordinance, which will not affect the Supreme Court's decision in which the control of services in the National Capital Territory Administration was given to the Delhi government. The Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill 2023 was passed by the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

This bill will replace the ordinance issued regarding transfers and postings of officers in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party government of Delhi is opposing it. Other parties of the opposition alliance Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (India), including AAP, have opposed it in Parliament.
