Dhubri town of Assam has recently hit the national headlines after communal relations thrived and several violent cases emerged. On their part, the law enforcement agencies have acted with speed, and 38 people associated with the unrest have been arrested. Assuring the people that peace and justice would be maintained without relaxation, the state government, through Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has taken several steps in this regard.
What Triggered the Incident?
The tense situation in Dhubri has been developing during the last week after the conflict between the two communities evoked fear and tension in the region. The cause is still being investigated; however, the Assam Police and administrative officials responded fast to contain the situation. Since then, security has been beefed up, and the number of patrols in sensitive areas has been increased.
State Government Responds Swiftly
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also replied to the situation through a post on X (formerly Twitter) and stated that 38 individuals who had participated in the violence have been arrested. He further added that the law will do its own part, and whoever will be found guilty will be punished despite the background. Sarma said Assam will not tolerate any kind of communal disturbance, and strict legal action is being taken under various sections.
Arrests and Legal Proceedings
As per the official statements made by ANI and The Assam Tribune, the detained members are facing charges under several sections of the IPC, including the ones that deal with violence, provocation, and disruption of public peace. The police are still investigating, and additional arrests are yet to come as evidence emerges. The local administration too has been conducting meetings with the community leaders in order to ease the tension and quell further trouble.
A Call for Harmony
The Assam government has once again assured that it would keep up communal harmony and make sure that the rule of law goes unrestrained. The people of Dhubri have been asked to help the administration and report suspicious cases.
Assam is demonstrating zero tolerance towards any activity that is capable of disrupting unity and peace, as law enforcement operates 24 hours, and the Chief Minister himself keeps a close watch over the development of the situation.
