Samajwadi Party MP Iqra Hasan Choudhary has become the latest victim of AI misuse after an obscene deepfake video featuring her was shared online. The clip (posted from a fake Facebook account named “Iqra Hasan Choudhary MP) triggered massive backlash from her supporters and prompted a police investigation.

The video was flagged on Monday night by her supporter Imran Nadvi, who tagged Uttar Pradesh Police on X. Acting swiftly, the DGP handed the case to Shamli police’s cyber cell. Officials have confirmed the video was made using AI and are now tracing the source.

Police say two boys from Amka village in Haryana’s Nuh district created the fake video using an AI app. A sarpanch from Mewat stepped in after the uproar and made the minors issue a public apology, where they were seen holding their ears and expressing regret. The apology video was widely shared, and the original deepfake has since been removed.

SP Shamli Ramsevak Gautam said, “As soon as the accused are identified, they will be arrested and strict action will be taken.” The case has reignited fears around deepfake technology being used to harass and defame public figures, especially women.

The Iqra Hasan viral video is just one example of how she’s been targeted online. The MP has flagged hundreds of fake profiles operating under her name on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. These accounts often share morphed photos and false claims.

Recently, Iqra submitted a full list of these fake handles to the police, but little action has been taken so far. Her team says the misuse is deliberate, aiming to harm her reputation and mislead the public.
