July 5, 2025, in Patna. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said on Saturday that Pashupati Kumar Paras is likely to join the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) before the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections. This could change the way elections are run in Bihar and also the election.
Yadav said, "Pashupati Kumar Paras has been wanting to join the Mahagathbandhan," at an event held at Paras's home to honor Ram Vilas Paswan's birth anniversary. We want him and all secular forces to support us, too. A proper statement will be made at the right time.
How this wil impact the Bihar Election 2025
Pashupati Kumar Paras’ possible entry into the Mahagathbandhan could reconfigure Bihar’s electoral landscape in the year 2025. First, his support from the Paswan community may undercut the NDA’s Dalit support base, which may combine with Tejashwi Yadav’s alliance and additional future coalitions, while raising yet more fissures in the ruling coalition. Secondly, it adds to the momentum for the INDIA bloc, the growing opposition front.
From the NDA to the RLJP to the Mahagathbandhan?
Paras quit the cabinet in 2024 after a fight with the BJP over its partnership with Chirag Paswan's LJP (Ram Vilas). He had been the Union Minister of Food Processing. When Paras lost the Hajipur seat to his nephew's party, it made him sad. He later left the NDA and started a new party called the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP).
Changes in politics are going on
Tejashwi Yadav praised Paras's organizational skills and pointed out that he has been close to the Paswan family for a long time. He said that including Paras would make the Mahagathbandhan stronger. Sources say that RLJP could get a few seats through the INDIA bloc's seat-sharing system if the deal goes through.
A boost to MGB's strategy
If Paras runs, it could change everything because he has a lot of support from the powerful Dalit vote bank. His supporters might switch their allegiance to the RJD-led union, which would improve its chances in important groups.
Hemant Soren, the chief minister of Jharkhand, was one of the people Yadav mentioned as having talked with him. The Mahagathbandhan is currently finalizing its campaign plan, its framework for sharing seats, and its idea that Tejashwi could be the face of the CM.
What’s Next?
Even though Paras hasn't said for sure that he's moving, Yadav's confident words make it very likely. If this alliance goes through, it will change the political landscape in Bihar in a big way. It could also test the power of the BJP-led NDA in the upcoming elections.
