Rahul Gandhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the BJP on Saturday during a parliamentary debate marking 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution. Holding a copy of the Constitution in one hand and Manusmriti in the other, Gandhi declared, "This is a battle between the Constitution and Manusmriti. We follow the Constitution, while the BJP adheres to Manusmriti."

Criticism of Savarkar’s Views

Gandhi referenced a statement by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, a key ideologue of the BJP and RSS, who had allegedly said there was "nothing Indian" in the Constitution and described Manusmriti as the most revered text for Hindus after the Vedas. Gandhi accused the BJP of hypocrisy, saying, “While the ruling party speaks of protecting the Constitution, they mock Savarkar’s views.”

Constitution: A Document Rooted in Modern and Ancient India

Highlighting the significance of the Constitution, Gandhi called it the document of modern India, rooted in the values and ideas of ancient India. He emphasized that while India’s Constitution represents progress and equality, Manusmriti is a symbol of regressive ideas that contradict the essence of democracy and justice.

Tweet Sparks Debate

Rahul Gandhi further intensified the debate through a tweet, declaring, “The Congress and INDIA alliance are the protectors of the Constitution. BJP and RSS are supporters of Manusmriti. The country will be governed by the Constitution, not Manusmriti.”

His remarks have sparked a renewed debate on the ideological divide between the Congress and BJP, underlining contrasting visions of governance and justice in the country. As the nation celebrates the 75th anniversary of its Constitution, Gandhi’s comments add to the discourse on the enduring relevance of its principles.
