Punjab Cabinet Clears Key Reforms on Health, Employment and Mining; CM Bhagwant Mann Announces Major Public-Welfare Decisions

In a significant move aimed at strengthening public welfare in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann chaired an important Cabinet meeting in Chandigarh, where several landmark decisions were approved. The meeting focused on boosting employment opportunities, improving healthcare services, and ensuring stricter action against illegal mining.

According to officials, the Punjab Cabinet has given the green signal for the empanelment of 300 specialist doctors across 12 key medical specializations. This step is expected to substantially enhance healthcare accessibility for citizens, especially in rural and underserved regions. Improved availability of expert medical services has been a major demand, and the government believes that this initiative will help reduce the burden on existing medical infrastructure while ensuring timely treatment for patients.

Bhagwant Mann Crackdown on Illegal Mining

To curb illegal mining activities—an issue that has long plagued several districts—the Cabinet approved amendments to the Punjab Minor Mineral Rules, 2013. The revised rules aim to bring more clarity, enhance monitoring, and enforce stricter penalties. The government’s objective is to protect the environment, regulate mineral extraction, and prevent revenue losses caused by unauthorized mining practices.

Uniform Framework Under Cooperative Societies

In another major decision, the Cabinet approved the addition of Rule 28A to the Punjab Cooperative Societies Rules, 1963. This change seeks to establish a uniform operational framework for cooperative institutions across the state. With the cooperative sector playing a critical role in agriculture, rural credit, and community development, the new rule is expected to streamline functioning and improve accountability.

Boost to Public Welfare

CM Bhagwant Mann emphasized that all decisions taken during the meeting reflect the government’s commitment to delivering efficient governance and citizen-centric reforms. From healthcare to employment and resource regulation, the focus remains on improving quality of life and ensuring transparent, accountable administration.

The Cabinet’s latest approvals are being seen as a strong step toward long-term development in Punjab, promising better services, stronger institutions, and improved welfare outcomes for the people of the state.
