Punjab CM Expresses Concern Over Drug Addiction In State

Bhagwant Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has expressed his determination to eradicate drug addiction from the state by the upcoming Independence Day. Speaking at the state-level Independence Day event in Patiala, Mann assured the public of decisive action against the drug issue. He emphasized the need for collective support from the people to achieve this goal.

Mann attributed the problem of drug addiction to unemployment

Mann attributed the problem of drug addiction to unemployment, considering it as the underlying cause. He highlighted the potential for economic growth through investments from major corporations, which would result in job opportunities for the youth of Punjab. This, he believes, will not only alleviate the issue of unemployment but also divert young individuals’ attention away from drugs. Mann also pointed out that gainfully employed individuals are less likely to engage in drug consumption due to their commitments and responsibilities.

Chief Minister spoke of a comprehensive strategy to combat the drug problem

The Chief Minister spoke of a comprehensive strategy to combat the drug problem, with a focus on the village level. He mentioned that local communities are well aware of those involved in drug trafficking and those affected by addiction. Mann clarified that his administration is targeting the suppliers and distributors of drugs rather than the addicts themselves. Those struggling with addiction would be treated as patients and provided with medical assistance.

Mann acknowledged the significant role Punjab played in the freedom struggle of India. He mentioned notable figures such as Baba Ram Singh, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Lala Lajpat Rai, Udham Singh, Kartar Singh Sarabha, and Diwan Singh Kalepani, who all made immense sacrifices to secure the nation’s independence.
