Punjab Floods News: AAP MLA Urges Higher Compensation, Thanks CM Bhagwant Mann for Farmer Relief

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdeep Singh, highlighted that nearly 150 villages in his constituency have been severely affected by recent floods. He has appealed for an increase in the compensation amount mandated under the central government’s law so that people can rebuild and repair their homes.

AAP MLA Urges Higher Compensation, Thanks CM Bhagwant Mann for Farmer Relief

Expressing gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the MLA acknowledged the state government’s swift decision to announce compensation for more farmers than any other state. He also urged that the deadline under the “Jisda Khet–Usdi Rait” scheme be extended to allow farmers sufficient time to benefit from the initiative.

MLA underlined that thousands of families have lost standing crops

The MLA underlined that thousands of families have lost standing crops, livestock, and homes due to floodwaters. Many residents have been forced to take shelter in makeshift camps, while others are struggling to secure drinking water and basic supplies. He stressed that enhanced compensation is vital for ensuring people can return to their normal lives.

Gurdeep Singh also called for greater coordination between state and central agencies to speed up the disbursement of relief packages. He said that delays in aid can further deepen the crisis for vulnerable groups such as small farmers, daily wage laborers, and elderly citizens who are solely dependent on agricultural income.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has already directed district administrations to conduct a comprehensive survey of affected areas and ensure that no deserving family is left out of relief measures. The state government has reiterated its commitment to standing firmly with farmers and rural communities in this time of crisis.
