Rajasthan extends curfew for two weeks

Looking at the alarming surge in Coronavirus cases in Rajasthan, government imposed a statewide lockdown till May 3.

The lockdown is dubbed as 'Jan Anushasan Pakhwada' (public discipline fortnight).

The restrictions, Gehlot announced, will come into effect on Monday and be in force till 5am on May 3. The decision to impose curbs was taken at a high-level meeting held late on Sunday, the chief minister said. “To effective control and curb the spread of Covid-19, it has been decided to prohibit various activities across the state under ‘self-discipline fortnight’,” Gehlot tweeted.

What is allowed:

Only shops and establishments dealing with essential services will be allowed to remain open during the Lockdown.

Those who are travelling from airports can move however a negative RT-PCR certificate for tests conducted within 72 hours of travel will be mandatory to enter the state, bus stands, railway stations, metro stations, will work.

Vegetable and fruit vendors are allowed to sell their products till seven in the evening.

Electronic and print media employees will have to show their I-cards.

The number of attendees in functions, marriages and other social gatherings will be capped at 50.

For funerals, no more than 20 persons will be allowed, as per the order.

No restrictions will be imposed on the movement of government officials, police, Home Guards, fire services officials, public transport staff, civic officials, sanitation workers, health workers and medics travelling with identity cards, an official order said.

What is not allowed:

All private offices and commercial establishments will be shut during the lockdown. Work from home has been encouraged.

All schools, colleges and educational institutes will remain shut till April 30.

The government has also ordered the closure of cinema halls, multiplexes and amusement parks.

The pandemic situation in the state of Rajasthan is turning grim. As the number of cases continue to surge, the state recorded 10,514 new positive cases on Sunday including 42 deaths.

Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Kota have emerged as the major hotspots of Corona infection. The total number of Corona deaths in the state has now risen to 3151 while the number of active cases has gone beyond 67000.
