Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav is once again in the headlines for his fresh statement on the decade-long legal battle involving a Rs 9 crore debt. Recently granted interim bail, the actor spoke openly about the financial dispute and alleged betrayal by a moneylender. He called the deal a “ghar ka maamla.”
At a press conference on Saturday, Rajpal explained the circumstances around the agreement. He said the deal was verbal, made without lawyers, and meant to be settled after his film’s release.
Rajpal Yadav Feels Cheated By Money Lender In Check Bounce Case
The Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 actor shared, “When the deal happened, Bhaskar ji (my lawyer) wasn’t in the picture. I have worked in over 250 films. If I look back at those agreements, every contract will have some loophole. When this deal took place, I never imagined it would be dragged to court.”
He continued, “This fight is an ego clash. The person wants me to fall at his feet in return for Rs 5 crore. He doesn’t want money. If it was for money, I am ready to pay since 2013. The money came to me first. I went to the Laxmi Nagar office and blindly signed the papers without reading them. I did make a mistake there.”
DON'T MISS
He added, “Because it was a ‘ghar ka maamla’, I didn’t involve lawyers. Sometimes, you trust people’s words and relationships more than paperwork. In my mind, I thought – a man whose net worth is between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500 crore gave me Rs 5 crore within minutes on a single phone call; why would he ever file a case against me?”
About Rajpal Yadav Debt Case
Rajpal Yadav’s debt case started in 2010 when he and his wife borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Private Limited to finance his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. The film failed at the box office, and repayment cheques were dishonoured. Over time, penalties and interest increased the total owed to nearly Rs 9 crore.
Initially convicted under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act in 2018, the case dragged through appeals and failed settlements for more than a decade. Despite multiple warnings from the Delhi High Court, Rajpal repeatedly missed repayment deadlines. On February 5, 2026, he surrendered at Tihar Jail to serve a six-month sentence. He was granted interim bail on February 16 after depositing Rs 1.5 crore.
During this time, industry peers such as Sonu Sood and Salman Khan reportedly offered financial and professional support. Rajpal’s lawyer confirmed that Rs 2.5 crore has been repaid so far, with the actor committed to clearing the remaining debt.
Rajpal Yadav’s Career and Future Projects
Despite the legal troubles, Rajpal remains focused on his career. He revealed, “Over the next 7 years, I have branding projects valued at Rs 1,200 crore. I’ve secured 4 agreements, which don’t include films. Some of these projects are worth Rs 200 crore, while others go up to Rs 2,000 crore. The income is a mix of fees and equity in the projects. I also have 10 films lined up.”
Rajpal will next appear in films like Akshay Kumar‘s Bhooth Bangla and Welcome to the Jungle
