SC Extends tenure of technical committee in Pegasus Case

The Supreme Court-appointed technical committee on Friday sought more time from the apex court to submit its investigation report into the Pegasus espionage case. After this, the Supreme Court has extended the tenure of the technical committee by four weeks. The court says that the supervising judge will study the report of the technical committee and give his opinion to the court by the end of June. The Pegasus case was heard in a bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Hima Kohli. When the hearing started, the CJI told about the report of the Technical Committee and said that the committee has investigated many technical issues, during which 29 instruments and some witnesses have been asked to be examined and interrogated.

The inquiry committee had also sought public opinion on some issues, in which people have sent their opinion in large numbers. The CJI said that the technical committee will prepare the final report by the end of May and submit it to Justice Raveendran. After this, in the next one month by June 20, Judge Raveendran will submit his final report to the court. The investigation into the Pegasus controversy revealed that this spyware was used on ministers, opposition leaders, political strategists, journalists, activists, minority leaders, scheduled caste judges, religious leaders and chiefs of the Central Bureau of Investigation.

In fact, a conglomerate of some international media groups claimed that Pegasus was allegedly used against several Indian politicians, ministers, social activists, businessmen and journalists.

The controversy escalated when the American newspaper New York Times recently claimed in a report that Pegasus spyware and one of the two billion-dollar weapons and intelligence equipment deal between India and Israel in 2017 The procurement of missile systems was mainly involved.
