It is noteworthy that throughout his tenure, Shinzo Abe played an important role in reshaping Japan's relations with India.
Shinzo Abe visited India in all his four terms as the Prime Minister of Japan. Abe was the Prime Minister of Japan who visited India most frequently. His first visit was in year 2007, the second in 2014, the third in 2015 and the fourth in 2017.
Shinzo Abe, who addressed the joint session of the Indian Parliament in the year 2007, put forward the concept of Indo-Pacific, which is in the form of QUAD today.
Although the work on QUAD was shelved after 2007, but to stop the increasing interference of China in the Indian Pacific region, work on QUAD resumed after 2017 which has taken the form of an organization today.
He was an important pillar in the bilateral relations between India and Japan is the issue of the Indo-Pacific region.
In January 2014, Shinzo Abe attended the Republic Day celebrations as the chief guest. Although the foundation of the global partnership between India and Japan was decided in 2001 and the start of the annual bilateral conference was decided in 2005, but from the second term of Shinzo, that is, from 2012, the relations between India and Japan gained a new momentum.
Be it the Doklam dispute with China or the current LAC dispute, Japan openly opposed China and supported India.
There was already a security-related agreement between India and Japan, but the 2 + 2 dialogue between India and Japan started during the time of Shinzo Abe.
Apart from this, work on the ambitious bullet train in terms of infrastructure started during the visit of Shinzo Abe in the year 2015.
Apart from this, both the countries also formed a forum for the projects related to the North-East. Apart from visiting Gujarat in India, Abe also visited Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Modi, and with the cooperation of Japan, the foundation of the Rudraksh Convention Center in Varanasi was laid during Shinzo Abe's visit to India.
