Somalia: Al-Qaeda Linked Group Al-Shabaab Attacks Hotel Hayat, 13 Killed

Somalia: There has been a terrorist attack on a hotel in Mogadishu in Somalia. In which at least 13 people are reported to be killed. At the same time, many people are also said to be injured. According to the news agency, information has been given from the police that there has been a terrorist attack at the Hyatt Hotel in Mogadishu. The terrorists are still inside the hotel. The police have cordoned off the area. Operation is being conducted to nab the terrorists.

According to the agency, after the bombings in two cars, the attackers with weapons opened fire in the hotel. In which many people were injured and many died. 9 injured have been taken to the hospital. The al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

As soon as the terrorists entered the hotel late on Friday night, the terrorists started blasting outside the hotel. On Saturday morning also, gunshots were heard. After 14 hours of the encounter between the hotel security forces and the terrorists hiding in the hotel since Saturday morning, the hotel has been freed from the terrorists. The terrorists were hiding on the top floor of the hotel and were firing continuously.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack

The terrorist organization al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack. Al-Shabaab is one of the factions of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda in different parts of the world. Nigeria’s Boko Haram or Pakistan-based Tehreek-e-Taliban are all part of this organization. The Somalia-based organization’s full name is Harkat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen, and it has a strong hold on the country’s southern border with Kenya.

Abdullahi Hussain, an eyewitness to the attack, told AP news agency over the phone, “We were having tea near the hotel lobby when we heard explosions and gunshots.” I immediately ran towards the hotel rooms on the ground floor and locked myself inside the room.

He told that the terrorists went straight upstairs and started firing bullets. I remained locked in my room until the security forces came and rescued me. He said that while going out, I saw many dead bodies lying on the ground near the reception.
