New Update
Suzuki and Toyota

Suzuki and Toyota: When Toyota unveiled the Sports EV, a concept sports car with an all-electric drivetrain, in the middle of December 2021, it caught everyone off guard. The 2 seater car which was branded with Gazoo Racing's logo, was rapidly viewed by enthusiasts as the MR2's successor. It featured a remarkable amount of carbon fibre, short overhangs, big air intakes, and what appeared to be a detachable top.

We need to take note of a recent article from the Japanese auto magazine Best Car. It states that a new mild hybrid sports car with three turbocharged cylinders and 1.0 litres is being developed with support from Suzuki.

Suzuki and Toyota sports car

The two domestic automakers are allegedly developing a reasonably priced mid-engined Toyota sports vehicle with a turbocharged 1.0-litre engine, according to a Japanese magazine. The car is reported to generate 200 Newton meters of torque and about 120 horsepower. It is anticipated that the ICE will use a mild hybrid configuration to offer a slight boost and increase fuel efficiency.

According to reports, the compact sports car could weigh as little as 2,200 pounds. The car's wheelbase is said to be close to that of the Toyota GR86, or about 100 inches. However, there is no evidence that any parts from one car are used in the other. Nevertheless, the vehicle wouldn't be built from scratch entirely. According to the Japanese publication, the front suspension and other components of the vehicle may be shared with the current-generation Yaris.

Suzuki's role in the project

The 1.0-litre engine, which may reportedly generate about 120 horsepower, is apparently being developed by Suzuki.

Price

As per the report, the cost of the car would be around $20,000.
