Top 10 Electric Cars: There were many new electric vehicle releases in 2023, a sign of the growing demand for EVs in India. We’ve narrowed down the selection of the best new electric vehicle releases for 2023 from among the plethora of EVs that were introduced this year. Read on to see the list.

The Top 10 Electric Cars launched in India this Year

Hyundai Ioniq 5

The most costly vehicle offered by the Korean automaker in India, the Hyundai IONIQ 5, made its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo. With a 72.6 kWh battery pack and a rear-wheel-drive electric motor arrangement producing 217 PS and 350 Nm, the premier electric crossover SUV is equipped. The ARAI claims that the Hyundai IONIQ 5 has a 631 km range, and it takes 21 minutes to fully charge from 0% to 80%.

Citroen eC3

The Citroen eC3, which is the electric variant of the C3 hatchback, is another reasonably priced EV available in the Indian market. With an electric motor producing 57 PS and 143 Nm, Citroen’s 29.2 kWh battery pack is capable of 320 km of range, according to ARAI claims.

Mahindra XUV400 EV

The Mahindra XUV400, an all-electric version of the XUV300, made its debut at the beginning of the year. The pricing of the compact electric SUV starts at Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom), and it comes with two battery options: the EC and EL versions have a 34.5 kWh battery and a 39.4 kWh battery, with an estimated max range of 375 km and 456 km, respectively.

Volvo C40 Recharge

Based on the XC40 Recharge, Volvo introduced the C40 Recharge electric SUV in September. With a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and a 78 kWh battery pack, the coupe-styled electric SUV produces 408 PS and 660 Nm of torque. With a stated range of 530 kilometres, the C40 Recharge can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 4.7 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV

This year, Mercedes-Benz introduced the EQE SUV to the Indian market, broadening its selection of electric vehicles. The 90.56 kWh battery pack powering the electric SUV has two motors that produce 408 PS and 858 Nm of torque. It boasts a 210 kmph top speed and a 550 km WLTP stated range.

MG Comet EV

The unique and incredibly little Comet EV was introduced by MG Motor earlier in May of this year. Priced from Rs 7.98 lakh to Rs 9.98 lakh (both ex-showroom), the Comet is a renamed Wuling Air. A comparatively tiny 17.3 kWh battery pack with a stated range of 230 km on a single charge powers the tallboy battery-powered mini hatch. An electric motor driving the back wheels with a maximum output of 41 horsepower and 110 Nm is powered by this battery.

Lotus Eletre

The Lotus Eletre is the brand-new vehicle that Lotus introduced to the Indian market. Lotus is the newest automaker to do so. This high-performance electric SUV has two powertrain options with a maximum output of 918 horsepower and 985 Nm, and it is equipped with a 112 kWh battery pack. The Eletre is advertised as having a 600 km driving range.

Rolls Royce Spectre

Although it hasn’t been formally introduced in India, a few individuals have been able to obtain this Rolls Royce pure electric premium model through importation. The Rolls Royce Spectre has an electric motor that produces 595 PS and 900 Nm, and it is powered by a 700-kilogramme battery pack that is probably 100 kWh in size. It claims to have a 520-kilometer driving range, according to WLTP.

BMW iX1

BMW debuted the iX1 in India, priced at 66.90 lakh (ex-showroom), and it was based on the third-generation X1. The all-electric SUV is a wholly imported CBU model with twin motors that each power one axle and a maximum combined output of 309 horsepower and 494 Nm of torque. The 66.4 kWh battery pack, which has a stated range of 440 kilometres on a single charge, powers the dual motors.

Tata Nexon EV Facelift

In 2020, the Tata Nexon EV had its market debut and contributed to the beginning of the current EV revolution. Along with its ICE (internal combustion engine) sibling, the electric SUV received a much-needed makeover this year. The Nexon EV is still available with two different battery pack options: 30 kWh and 40.5 kWh. It is said to have a maximum driving range of 465 km.
