Toll in Kamala Building fire in Mumbai’s Tardeo rises to 7

The fire incident on the 18th floor of the 20-storey Kamala Mills building situated in Mumbai’s Tardeo area has claimed the lives of 7 people, stated official reports so far. The fire broke out at around 7.30 am in Kamla building located opposite Gandhi Hospital at Gowalia Tank.

DCP Saurabh Tripathi said that 15 injured people were shifted to various hospitals in Mumbai following the fire incident. “Of these, four were reported critical,” he said.

He further informed that a total of 21 fire tenders were rushed to the 20-storey Kamala building near Mumbai’s Bhatia hospital in Tardeo and the fire was brought under control with the help of fire department, local police and traffice police.

“As per the preliminary investigation, the fire broke out on the 15th floor and went upwards via duct. The most affected with 19th floor. The fire is under control now,” said the DCP.

The official said the firefighting is still underway. As per some residents, the power supply in the building went off after the fire. Many of the residents of the building were asleep when the fire broke out, he added.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has stated that the fire incident will be investigated. “Our guardian minister of Mumbai Suburban Aaditya Thackeray and Mumbai City guardian minister Aslam Shaikh will look into it,” he said, as reported by ANI.
