Twitter India removes more than 48,000 accounts for violating its policies about child abuse, nudity, and terrorism

Between October 26 and November 25, Elon Musk’s Twitter suspended 45,589 accounts in India for encouraging non-consensual nudity and child sexual exploitation. The microblogging site, which is undergoing some changes under its new owner, has deleted 3,035 accounts for encouraging terrorism in the nation on its platform. During the reporting period in India, Twitter banned 48,624 accounts in total.

According to Twitter’s monthly report submitted in accordance with the new IT Rules, 2021, it received 755 complaints from users in India during the same time period and responded to 121 of those URLs.

These include court orders that are accompanied by complaints made by specific users.

In a statement, Twitter said that it welcomes all users and does not allow behaviour that intimidates, threatens, dehumanises, or attempts to silence others’ views via fear.

The business stated in its report that Twitter “reflects genuine dialogues happening in the world and that occasionally includes opinions that may be offensive, provocative, and/or discriminatory to others.” “While we encourage everyone to express themselves on our platform, we do not accept behaviour that dehumanises, threatens, or exploits fear to silence the voices of others through harassment or other forms of coercion.”

“All of these were settled, and the proper responses were provided. After analysing the circumstances, we didn’t reverse any of these account bans. Every account is still suspended “the business claimed.

During this reporting period, “we also received 1 request pertaining to general queries about Twitter accounts,” the company claimed.

Big social media and digital platforms with more than 5 million users are required to provide monthly compliance reports under the new IT Rules 2021.

According to Twitter, “We will continue to provide this report on a monthly basis, and over time, we will make enhancements based on input obtained from the government, or in accordance with internal changes that allow us to offer more precise data.”
