Uddhav Thackeray calls all-party meet to review COVID-19 situation

Amid an alarming spike in Covid-19 cases across Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has called an all-party meet on Saturday to discuss the situation and steps to curb the spread.

The development comes a day after Maharashtra recorded 58,993 new COVID-19 cases and 301 deaths.

As many as 77,567 people were discharged or recovered on Friday, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,19,90,859.

The previous high was recorded on Friday when the country reported 1,19,90,859 fresh COVID-19 positive cases in a single day.

This is the fifth day in a week when India reported more than 1 lakh cases in a single day.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 11,73,219 samples were tested for COVID-19 infection on Friday.

The Maharashtra government has imposed a strict weekend lockdown from Friday night till 7 am on Monday. Home delivery of food and essential supplies and movement of students taking various exams are allowed.

The meeting will be attended by prominent faces of the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance and leaders of BJP, MNS, SP etc.
