Uddhav Thackeray To Support Draupadi Murmu For Presidential Election

Presidential Elections 2022: Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena will support BJP-led NDA's candidate Draupadi Murmu in the presidential election. Uddhav Thackeray, who lost power to Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde faction and BJP, said he does not have small thinking and Shiv Sena's support of NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu indicates this.

Voting for the post of President is to be held on July 18. The decision came a day after 16 of the party's 22 MPs requested a meeting with Uddhav Thackeray. These 16 MPs had urged Thackeray that the party should vote for NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu in the presidential election as she is a tribal woman.

NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu is facing opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha for the presidential election. The Shiv Sena is facing a crisis after the break-up of the Eknath Shinde faction and replacing Uddhav Thackeray as the CM with the support of the BJP. About 10 percent of the population of Maharashtra is from the Scheduled Tribes.

The Shinde faction, during the last month's rebellion, had been demanding that the Shiv Sena sever ties with the Congress and the NCP and re-align with its natural ally, the BJP.

Uddhav Thackeray had refused this and resigned from the post of CM after most of the MLAs switched sides in favor of Shinde.

After his resignation, Eknath Shinde took oath as the CM of Maharashtra and Devendra Fadnavis of BJP took oath as the Deputy CM.

Shiv Sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar had told on Monday that 16 MPs of Shiv Sena's Lok Sabha and two Rajya Sabha MPs were present during the meeting.

However, two MPs did not attend the meeting. Bhawna Gawli and Shrikant Shinde were not present in this meeting. Rajya Sabha MPs Sanjay Raut and Priyanka Chaturvedi and Lok Sabha MPs Gajanan Kirtikar, Vinayak Raut, Arvind Sawant, Hemant Godse, Patience Mane, Shrirang Barne, Rahul Shewale, Prataprao Jadhavi, Sadashivrao Lokhande, Rajendra Gavit was present in the meeting held at Uddhav Thackeray's private residence Matoshree.

Other MPs including Rajenimalkar had also reached. In the meeting, 16 MPs had said about the support of the presidential candidate that Draupadi Murmu is a tribal woman. That's why we should vote in her favor. Even before this we have supported Pratibha Patil on the issue of Marathi.
