AMU Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor resigns after nomination to UP Legislative Council

Notification has been issued for Aligarh Muslim University Vice chancellor professor Tariq Mansoor to become Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from BJP. He is the first Vice Chancellor of AMU to join BJP. In the history of 100 years of AMU, till now no vice-chancellor has started politics from BJP. He can get an important ministry in the state government. The issued notification also includes the name of Rajnikant Maheshwari, former regional president of BJP Braj province.

Now Tariq Mansoor had resigned from the post of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) vice-chancellor on Tuesday.

The names of six people were sent to the governor

The party had sent the names of six people, including the vice-chancellor, to the governor. Vice Chancellor was made in 2017, got one year service extension. Prof. Tariq Mansoor became the Vice Chancellor of AMU on 17 May 2017. The President (Visitor) granted an extension of one year after his tenure expired on 17 May 2022. The term of the Vice-Chancellor is ending on May 17, 2023.

Discussion is going on as to who will be the new Vice-Chancellor before him.

Benefits of being close to BJP and RSS

The Vice Chancellor had good relations with senior leaders of the RSS and the BJP. Many senior RSS functionaries attended the marriage of the VC’s son. Recently, he had also participated in the RSS program at Red Fort in Delhi. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat was also in it. It is believed that he has got the benefit of this closeness.

First Vice Chancellor in the history of 100 years


Mohammad Ali became the first Vice-Chancellor of AMU in 1920. Since 2017 Prof. Tariq Mansoor is the Vice Chancellor. He was preceded by Lieutenant General Zameeruddin Shah. Meanwhile Prof. Except Mansoor, other VCs have been doing politics by joining non-BJP parties. Tariq Mansoor is the only VC who is starting a political innings from BJP.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Tariq Mansoor may get an important ministry in the state government. Lok Sabha elections are next year after the civic elections. Uttar Pradesh has a big role in the victory. In such a situation, he can be presented as a minority face. BJP is also focusing on Muslims to increase its vote bank.

After the notification is issued, he can leave the charge of the post of Vice-Chancellor soon.
