The government led by Bhagwant Mann has announced a significant boost to the education sector in the Punjab Budget 2026, aiming to further strengthen the state’s ongoing education reforms.

According to information shared by the Aam Aadmi Party Punjab, the state government has allocated ₹19,279 crore for the education sector, marking a 7 per cent increase compared to the previous year’s budget.

Officials said the enhanced allocation is aimed at expanding the ongoing “education revolution” in the state and improving infrastructure, quality of teaching and learning facilities in government institutions.

The budget also includes ₹569 crore for the development of technical education

Under the “Education Revolution 2.0” initiative, the government plans to invest around ₹3,500 crore over the next six years to further transform the education system. The initiative is expected to focus on upgrading school infrastructure, improving digital learning and strengthening academic standards.

The budget also includes ₹569 crore for the development of technical education, with a focus on strengthening skill-based learning and preparing students for modern industries and emerging technologies.

In a major announcement, the government also plans to establish a world-class university at Sri Anandpur Sahib named after Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru. The proposed university aims to promote higher education, research and global academic collaboration.

Officials said the initiatives are part of the state government’s broader vision to make Punjab a leading centre for quality education and to provide better opportunities for students across the state.
