B.Tech admissions to be based on JEE

The university had received approval for this new program from the Ministry of Education in April to create 72 teaching and 48 non-teaching posts, the official told news agency PTI. The university had formed a committee to consider starting new courses in 2021.

Quoting the report submitted by the panel, an official said, “The committee held several meetings in the last year and a half and came up with three B.Tech programs under the Faculty of Technology in the emerging subject areas of Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Various issues are discussed systematically to facilitate the beginning. The report released by the Press Trust of India states that the university will use the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) score obtained by a candidate for admission to B.Tech programmes.

The report states that a proposal has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Education for the creation of physical infrastructure for the Faculty of Technology, which will take time to obtain necessary financial and other statutory approvals.

The committee has recommended that till a special building for the Faculty of Technology is constructed and operational, adequate provision of space for classrooms and laboratories for the B.Tech programs should be made.

“The committee has authorized the Vice Chancellor to decide on the location and other necessary physical infrastructure for starting these B.Tech programmes,” the report said. As far as the number of students in the first year is concerned, the committee said that there will be 120 students in each course. This means that a total of 360 students will be given admission in three courses.

The B.Tech programs will be designed in such a way that a minimum of 50 per cent weightage and a maximum of 65 per cent weightage will be given to the core subject area of studies, the report said. The rest of the weightage will be for minor subject areas of study. Students will have several exit options as per the National Education Policy.

A student who has completed one year of study and earned the requisite credits will be awarded a Certificate, one who has completed two years of study and earned the requisite credits will be awarded a Diploma. At the same time, an Advanced Diploma will be awarded to the student who exits the course with three years of study with requisite credits. Apart from this, students who successfully complete four years will be awarded B.Tech degree.
