EDUCATION: Bihar Government to provide incentive to these women

The Bihar government has announced an incentive of Rs1 lakh for women candidates who will clear the preliminary examinations of UPSC and BPSC .

As per an announcement made by the Government of Bihar on Saturday, General category women aspirants of central and state civil service examinations will now receive an incentive of about Rs 1 lakh for clearing concerned preliminary exams. The amount will be provided to the qualifying candidates by the Women and Child Development Corporation (WCDC) of the state government to aid them in preparing for the main examination and interview, according to an official.

Provisions under the scheme

Harjot Kaur Bamhara, the managing director for WCDC said, “The government has started this scheme to encourage the performance of women of Bihar in the Union Public Service Commission and Bihar Public Service Commission exams. Women who have been successful in the preliminary exams of UPSC or BPSC conducted in 2021 can apply for it.”

Difference from the existing schemes

Harjot Kaur Bamhara added that the incentive will be provided for those women candidates who have not received any prior financial assistance or grants under civil services encouragement schemes. Before this announcement, only aspirants belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other backward classes were given incentives. But, now, the scheme has been extended to the rest of the women candidates.

Incentive an aid for the main examination

The Managing Director for Women and Child Development Corporation stated, “This amount (Rs 1 lakh) would be a lump sum so that candidates do not face problems in preparing for the main examination. The government will directly transfer the amount to the bank account of the candidate.” She further added that online applications for the scheme are being accepted, which will continue till December 3.
