EDUCATION: January 1 to be celebrated as Student’s day from 2022- Mamta Banerjee

Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee said that January 1 of every year would now be observed as Students' Day from 2022.

Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that from 2022 onwards, January 1 of every year would be observed in the state as Students’ Day. The CM made the announcement at an administrative meeting at North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday.

The administrative meeting was held at Nazrul Centenary Bhaban in Madhyamgram on Wednesday afternoon, the chief minister said that from now on, the first day of the year (January 1) would be dedicated to the students “because they are our future”. According to her, if Sports Day and Kanyashree Day were celebrated in the state, then why not Students Day?

Inquiries on action after Amphan, other developmental work

At the administrative meeting, Mamata Banerjee also asked to know what action has been taken after cyclone Amphan and Yash. She also inquired about the plan to plant mangrove trees, the progress of 100 days work, and their payment. She asked for a nodal officer to be appointed to look after this work. She also asked what measures had been taken to prevent dengue, as dengue outbreaks occurred in the district every year.

“We have been thinking about opening a jute mill, as we are in favor of 100% jute,” said the Bengal CM.

Targeting the centre, Mamata Banerjee said, “Cyclone Bulbul, and Amphan — central government does not pay for this, they only give speeches.
