On 2nd & 3rd May, 2025, DME Law School hosted the International Conference on Public Health and Human Rights in collaboration with institutions like the University for Peace (Costa Rica), Activate Green (Kenya), Al- Aghsan Foundation (Iraq), Youth for Human Rights International, (U.S.A), Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, Centre for Research and Studies in Human Rights, Dharmashastra National Law University, National Law University & Judicial Academy Assam, Centre for Research in Public Law, Policy and Jurisprudence, Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai, Centre for Disability Studies, Gujarat National Law University. Vidhisastras Advocates & Solicitors was the title sponsor of the event. Centered on the theme “A Multidimensional Approach to Equity, Justice and Resilience,” the conference provided a dynamic platform for academic discussion, legal reflection, and international collaboration on pressing public health and human rights issues.
The first day begun with a grand inaugural ceremony at the Nelson Mandela Auditorium which was graced by the Chief Guest Sh. Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman, National Commission for Minorities & Ex-Officio Member, National Human Rights Commission & the Special Guests were Mr. Evgeny Antonov, Attache of Russian Embassy of France to India, Mr. Maxime Saleur, Political Officer, (Chancery), Embassy of France to India, Mr. Gregory Shmidt, Member of Dept of Internal Policy & Third Secretary of the Russian Embassy and Prof. (Dr.) Rashmi K. Nagpal, Associate Dean, School of Law, SVKM’s NMIMS, Chandigarh. The event was also graced by Hon’ble Justice Bhanwar Singh, Director General, DME & Former Judge, Allahabad High Court, Prof. (Dr.) Ravikant Swami, Director, DME, Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Kaur Randhawa, Head, DME Law School, Ms. Bedapriya Lahiri & Ms. Mansi Madan, Faculty-Convenors of the conference. The dignitaries of the online Inaugural Ceremony were Prof. (Dr.) K.V.S Sarma, Vice Chancellor, National Law University and Judicial Academy Assam, Prof. (Dr.) Amar Pal Singh, Vice Chancellor, RMLNLU, Lucknow, Dr. Vikas Bhatia, Executive Director, AIIMS, Bibinagar & Dr. Pierfrancesco Rossi, Professor of International Law, University of Teramo, Italy. The inaugural ceremony also witnessed the Book Launch of a book titled “Human Rights, Human Wrongs: Dilemmas and Diversity in Criminology” published by Satyam Law International which includes proceedings of the International Conference on Criminology organized in the past.
Later in the evening, the focus shifted to a virtual panel discussion titled “Trust, Truth and Power: Epistemic Justice in Global Health Crises,” held via Zoom. This session explored how public trust, accurate information, and power structures impact responses to health emergencies, particularly during global crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. It emphasized the importance of epistemic justice—the fair treatment of knowledge and its producers—in shaping inclusive and effective public health responses. The Panelists were from Costa Rica, Canada, Venezuela, Kenya, India and Iraq and the Session was moderated by Ms. Amrapalli Sharma, Assistant Professor, DME.
The next day of the Conference witnessed fourteen Virtual Technical sessions where more than 200 papers were presented. The conference concluded with a valedictory ceremony on May 3rd. The guests for the Valedictory Ceremony were Prof. (Dr.) Alka Chawla, Professor-In-Charge, Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, Adv. Ashish Deep Verma, Founder/Managing Partner, Vidhisastras-Advocates and Solicitors, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Bhanwar Singh, Director General. DME and Prof. Rajinder Kaur Randhawa, Head, DME Law School. It was concluded with the announcement of Best Paper and Best Presentation in different categories. Overall, the conference successfully merged academic inquiry, legal analysis, and policy discussions to address global public health challenges. With its diverse range of speakers and international participation, the event served as a significant step toward building resilient and equitable health frameworks for the future.
