IIT Roorkee: Developed sensor to detect neurological disease

IIT Roorkee: A team of scientists from IIT Roorkee has developed a sensor to detect neurological diseases. Through this, diseases can be detected effectively at an early stage.

The dopamine sensor developed at IIT Roorkee will prove to be important for the medical field. The sensor developed by scientists can detect even small changes in the level of dopamine chemicals in the brain, thus detecting the possibility of disorders such as schizophrenia and Parkinson’s. Most of these diseases cannot be completely treated but early detection helps in controlling the progression of the disease. The institute’s team has used a material called graphene quantum dot to make these sensors.

Research Professors

The research was led by Prof. Soumitra Satpathy and Dr. Manisha Chatterjee from the Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering, IIT Roorkee and Prof. Partha Roy, Prathul Nath, Anshu Kumar, Vishal Kumar, Sachin Kadian of Physics Department and Prof. Includes pride.

Research published in the journal

This research has recently been published in Nature Scientific Reports. Pro. Soumitra Satpathy said, “Our present study opens up the possibility of designing a point-of-care device. This would be suitable for detecting the amount of dopamine in real samples. Director of IIT Roorkee Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi said that mental illnesses affect a large section of our population. The research team is to be congratulated for working on such an important problem and contributing to the diagnosis of mental illness.
