In a recent incident in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, a NEET candidate was allegedly asked to remove his 'Janeu' (sacred thread) before entering the examination hall, sparking widespread protests and political outrage.

Controversy Erupts Over 'Janeu' Removal During NEET Exam in Karnataka

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, representing Dharwad, addressed the issue, stating, "NEET is conducted by the central government, and we have never instructed anyone to remove the 'Janeu'. Our instructions have always been to ensure proper checks during the examination." He emphasized that the incident occurred at only one examination center and called for appropriate action by the state government, noting that an FIR has already been registered in connection with the incident.

The case has sparked significant debate, with many questioning the manner in which religious practices are being treated in examination centers. Various organizations, including the Brahmins' Organisation of India and Vishwa Madhva Mahaparishat, have expressed strong opposition to the removal of 'janivara' from Brahmin students at the CET centre. Protests have been held, with demonstrators asserting that preventing students from taking the test after a year of preparation is unconstitutional and demonstrates an anti-Hindu stance.

The Karnataka state education minister has termed the incident "unfortunate" and assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible. The controversy highlights ongoing concerns about the intersection of religious practices and examination protocols in the state.
