The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has changed a few things in the syllabus of History, Civics and Hindi for class 12th.
According to NCERT, the change in syllabus will be applicable to all schools across the country where NCERT books are being taught.
Many major changes were made in the NCERT books last year itself, which is being seen in the new NCERT books published this year. Although, these changes were made only last year, but now the books have been printed in the markets.
These changes will be implemented from the current academic session (2023-24).
According to The Indian Express, many things related to Mahatma Gandhi and Nathuram Godse have also been removed from the book. However, in the list officially released by NCERT in June last year, there was no mention of their removal. Now some lines have been removed in the new books which have come in the markets recently.
Gandhi's assassination and references to Gandhi's killer Nathuram Godse as a Brahmin from Pune and editor of an extremist Hindu newspaper, who denounced Gandhi as an appeasement of Muslims. These have also been removed from the class 12th history textbook. But all these deleted portions are not part of the officially released booklet on rationalization of syllabus, which is available on the NCERT website.
