An evening in Delhi was devoted to the memory of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, as dignitaries and freedom struggle enthusiasts gathered at the FICCI auditorium to commemorate Moirang Day. The event saw the presence of eminent personalities such as Brigadier Sanjay Chhikara, Kunwar Shekhar, Manab Majumdar, and Ravindra Indraraj Singh, who paid floral tributes and shared reflections on Netaji’s legacy. Students from Shobhit University were also in attendance, contributing to the vibrant energy and intellectual spirit of the gathering.

“We Were Free, We Are Free, and We Will Remain Free”

Chancellor of Shobhit University, Kunwar Shekhar, in his address, highlighted the symbolic importance of Moirang Day. He said, “This day reminds us that we were free, we are free, and we will remain free.” He stressed that India’s independence was the result of not just well-known leaders, but also countless unnamed heroes who gave their lives for the nation’s freedom.

Kunwar Shekhar called on today’s youth to understand that the fight for independence involved immense sacrifice and unity. He emphasized that Moirang Day is an occasion to honour the bravery of those whose names history often overlooks.

Call to the Youth: Read and Remember Netaji

Other dignitaries, including Brigadier Sanjay Chhikara, Manab Majumdar, and Ravindra Indraraj Singh, also remembered Netaji’s unparalleled courage. They spoke of his visionary leadership, the formation of the Azad Hind Fauj, and his firm belief that independence could not wait for slow negotiations.

The speakers urged the younger generation to read about Subhas Chandra Bose—not just as a name from the past, but as a revolutionary who challenged the British with intellect, military strategy, and patriotism. They also warned against reducing the freedom movement to a few chapters, urging for a broader understanding of India’s struggle.

Moirang Day: Symbol of Independent India’s First Flag Hoisting

Moirang Day marks the historic moment on April 14, 1944, when the Indian National Flag was hoisted for the first time on Indian soil by the Azad Hind Fauj. The speakers noted that this event symbolized the tangible arrival of freedom and a new chapter in India’s history.

Participants reflected on the spirit of the INA and how Netaji’s call of “Give me blood, and I will give you freedom” continues to inspire generations. The event concluded with floral tributes and a collective pledge to carry forward the ideals of Netaji.

The gathering was not only a tribute but also a message—that remembering Subhas Chandra Bose is not just about looking back, but about applying his ideals to build a stronger and more conscious India.
