QS Rankings 2024: IIT Bombay breaks into top 150, DU among best 500 Universities globally

QS rankings 2024: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has climbed 23 ranks to claim the 149th position globally in the most recent Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (WUR) released late on Tuesday night, breaking into the top 150 universities in the globe. The University of Delhi (407) and Anna University (427), both newcomers, have also secured a place in the top 500 Universities.

IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi top Indian Universities in QS Globe Rankings

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) emerged as the best higher educational institution in India, becoming the only institute from India to land a place in the Top 150. IIT Delhi bagged second place among Indian universities with a ranking of 197, followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore with a ranking of 225.

Top Three Universities in the World

The top three universities worldwide are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Cambridge, and the University of Oxford. Harvard University ranked number four, Stanford University ranked number five, Imperial College London ranked number six, ETH Zurich ranked number seven, National University of Singapore (NUS), ranked number eight, UCL, ranked ninth, and the University of California, Berkeley (UCB), ranked tenth, round out the top ten global universities.

IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras in Top 500

IIT Kharagpur is the fourth-ranked Indian institute, with a ranking of 271, followed by IIT Kanpur at 278, IIT Madras at 285, IIT Guwahati at 364, and IIT Roorkee at 369.45 Indian institutions were ranked in the QS World University Ranking this year for the first time.

IIT Bombay top Indian institute in the Employer Reputation Metric

The Employer Reputation metric, which IIT Bombay scored the highest on with a global rating of 69, was listed as one of nine parameters in the statement.

“The Institute has a score of 81.9 in employer reputation, 73.1 in citation per faculty, 55.5 in academic reputation, 47.4 in employment outcome, 54.9 in sustainability, 18.9 in faculty-student ratio, 4.7 in international faculty, 8.5 in international research network and 1.4 in international students, all scores out of a maximum of 100 points. Among these nine parameters, the Employer Reputation indicated the strongest one for IIT Bombay with a rank of 69 globally,” it said.
