SC rejects plea to postpone NEET-PG-22

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2022. The exam is scheduled to be conducted on May 21. The plea was filed by a group of doctors.

The top court said that any further extension will have cascading effect on the admission schedule fixed by the court in January 2016. As per this, NEET PG 2022 is already delayed by 4 months. The Centre said that NEET-PG 2023-24 has been fixed in January 2023 and the effort of govt is to get back on track the admission schedule that was derailed due to covid-19 for last 2 years.

Medical aspirants had filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking the postponement of the NEET PG 2022 examination since the dates of the test are clashing with the already-underway NEET PG 2021 counselling, which was delayed several times.

The petitioners were seeking the deferment of the examination by 4 to 8 weeks so that those who appeared for NEET PG 2021 counselling have enough time to prepare for this year’s exam.

NEET-PG is an eligibility-cum-ranking examination prescribed as the single entrance examination for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses.
