School teachers fired for absence from duty in Odisha

The Jajpur district administration in Odisha dismissed seven government school teachers from service for being unauthorizedly absent from duty for a long time. Orders for termination of service were issued by District Education Officer Ranjan Kumar Giri as per the decision of the Collector.

Dismissed junior teachers of government schools of various blocks remained absent from their work for years. Giri said, "Despite several notices being issued to them, they did not attended their duties. Hence, they are dismissed from service."

The termination orders were issued by the District Education Officer (DEO)-cum-Project Coordinator, Samagra Shiksha, Jajpur, Ranjan Kumar Giri as per the decision of the Collector-cum-Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad Jajpur.

"The teachers were absent from duty without permission for years. Despite several notices being issued to them they did not return to work, hence they are dismissed from service."

Meanwhile, in a similar incident, the headmaster of a government school was suspended on Thursday for consuming alcohol while on duty. The accused is Prakash Chandra Mallick, the headmaster of Ratnagiri Government High School in Bari block.

Similarly 10 junior teachers of Malkangiri district have been terminated by schools as they were absent since l 4 to 5 years. All of them have been terminated from their jobs.

According to sources, 'these teachers were posted at different schools across the district. After serving for a few days, they stopped going to their respective schools. They continued to be on leave without informing their superiors. They being the government service holders, they must inform their superiors regarding the cause of their absence and when they will join their duties.'
