Seize Your Future: AICTE’s Saksham Scholarship Scheme Paves the Way for Specially-Abled Students

Saksham Scholarship Scheme

The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), has rolled out the ‘Saksham’ Scholarship Scheme. This initiative aims to inspire and assist specially-abled children in pursuing technical education. This step is a testament to the ministry’s commitment to ensuring every differently-abled young learner is given a chance to further their studies and pave the way to a successful future via technical education.

What’s on Offer?

The Saksham Scholarship offers an annual sum of ₹50,000 to students admitted in the first year of a Diploma level course at an AICTE-approved institution for a maximum of three years. For those admitted in the second year through lateral entry, the scholarship will cover two years. The financial aid can be used towards college fees, computer purchases, stationery, books, equipment, software, and more. The scholarship is renewed annually, with payments made through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Am I Eligible?

Students who are enrolled in the first year of a Diploma level course or the second year through lateral entry at any AICTE-approved institution are eligible to apply. Students should have a disability of no less than 40%. Additionally, the total family income from all sources must not exceed Rs. 8 lakh per annum in the current financial year. Applicants need to provide a valid income certificate issued by their respective State or UT Government.

Application Process Simplified

Applying for the Saksham Scholarship is straightforward and online. Applicants need to register on the National Scholarship Portal (www.scholarships.gov.in), fill out the application form, and upload the necessary documents. These include the Aadhaar card, copies of SSC/10th certificate & mark sheet, HSC/12th certificate & mark sheet (in case of Degree level), ITI certificate & mark sheet (for lateral entry students), Diploma certificate & mark sheet (for lateral entry degree students), Category Certificate if applicable, Study/Bonafide Certificate, and Annual Family Income Certificate.

By offering financial assistance, the Saksham Scholarship Scheme is bridging the gap for specially-abled students in technical education. It embodies the government’s commitment to ensuring that all students, irrespective of their physical abilities, have equal opportunities to shape a successful future.
