Supreme Court: There can’t be a uniform scheme for assessment for all state boards

It is impossible to have a uniform evaluation policy for all the state boards in the country. The Supreme Court said this on Thursday.

Actually, on June 24, the court was hearing a petition to cancel the class XII board examination. Meanwhile, a bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari observed that each board is autonomous and separate. Therefore, the court cannot direct them to adopt the same scheme.

Justice Khanwilkar said that we cannot direct the preparation of uniform scheme for the students of the whole country. Each board has to prepare its own plan. They know a lot about it and they have experts to give the right advice.

After the hearing is over, the Supreme Court has directed all state boards to notify the scheme for evaluation within 10 days from today and declare the result of internal assessment by July 31. Along with this, it has been asked to make specified timeline like CBSE and ICSE. That is, around July 4, the details of the evaluation policy prepared by all the state education boards to declare the results of class 12th students will be released.

A bench of Supreme Court Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari told the Andhra Pradesh government, “If there is even one casualty, we will hold you responsible.” The state is adamant on holding board exams in July, even as most central and state-level boards have canceled their class 10 and class 12 exams.

Addressing the education department of Andhra Pradesh, the SC said, “Even if there is a single casualty, you will be held responsible.” The court said, “Merely saying that we want to take the examination is not enough. You have to take responsibility of students, staff, frontline workers.”

The Andhra Pradesh government had earlier said that it is “eager” to conduct board exams for AP SSC and AP Inter students. The SC had given the state two days to take a decision.

In the ongoing case in the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of board exams across India, advocate Anubha Srivastava Sahai had sought a uniform evaluation scheme for all state boards, to which a bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari said That the SC does not direct the same to all the state boardscan give.
