Supreme Court to hear petition to cancel the offline examinations of 10th and 12th board

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition to cancel the offline examinations of the 10th and 12th board across the country. CJI Justice NV Ramana said that the bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar will hear the matter. Advocate Prashant Padmanabhan told the bench that this petition pertains to the board examination of class 10th and 12th students.
In the petition, there has been a demand to cancel the physical examinations of 10th and 12th board of all state boards, CBSE and ICSE. It has been said in the petition that since physical classes have not been held due to Covid, online examination should be done instead of offline examinations. On this, the CJI said that it is okay to list the matter with the bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar.

Lawyer and child rights activist Anubha Sahay Srivastava has also filed an application demanding to give results through alternative evaluation method instead of offline examination. The petition has also sought a direction to all the boards to declare the results on time and give alternatives to the reform examination due to the various challenges being faced.

The petition said that the court should direct the students of classes X, XI, XII of CBSE, ICSE, NIOS, and state boards to adopt alternative methods of evaluation instead of offline examination. Apart from this, the court should also order a correction test to be conducted for those who are not satisfied with the internal assessment.

The plea has also sought a direction to constitute a committee to decide the formula for evaluation of students, including compartment students, and to declare the results within a stipulated time frame. It has been said in the petition that due to Covid, physical classes were not held, in such a situation the board examinations should be conducted online.

The petition has also sought an order to the UGC to constitute a committee to declare the date of admission in various universities.
