The pre paper of UPSC Civil Services 2023 was organized on 28 May. After the paper, there has been a controversy over some questions asked in Paper 2 of the exam, that is CSAT. There is a lot of talk on this on social media as well. The candidates have now reached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) regarding this matter. Petition has been filed. Candidates allege that some questions in CSAT paper were asked of CAT and IIT JEE level.
What is this matter related to UPSC Civil Services Examination?
Candidates claim that the CSAT paper tests the general aptitude of the candidates as per the syllabus given by UPSC. In this, the basic intelligence test of the candidates is done. According to the syllabus, questions of class 10th level are asked in this paper. But this time reportedly there were some questions which were difficult for those who have not studied Maths in class 11th and 12th.
Citing the petition, the candidates said that the UPSC CSAT paper was not only out of syllabus, but was also discriminatory against the economically weaker candidates. Candidates claimed that such paper is not suitable for those candidates who come from rural areas or have studied from arts stream. In the petition, the candidates said that this year about 10 questions were asked in the CSAT paper which were from the 11th class Maths syllabus. The matter does not stop here. Candidates also claim that some questions were asked from previous year papers of IIT JEE and CAT exams.
In the petition, the candidates also said that it is not wrong to raise questions from other examinations. But this should be done keeping in mind all the objectives of the recruitment. It should also be kept in mind that what kind of candidates are to be selected from the exam.
What is the demand of the candidates?
- The cut-off of the paper should be reduced. The cut-off of CSAT paper should be reduced from 33 percent to 23 percent.
- CSAT paper 2 should be conducted again.
Many teachers and candidates of UPSC have also tweeted on social media amid the questions arising on cSAT paper. Insights IAS founder Vinay Kumar GB tweeted and asked whether the cut-off for UPSC CSAT paper should be reduced from 33 per cent to 23 per cent?
