UPSC to hold exam for Indian Railway Management Service Aspirants, to be held in 2023

Indian Railway Management Service: In a recent announcement made by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), UPSC revealed that an exam will be conducted in the year 2023 for Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) aspirants.

Phases of the examination for Indian Railway Management Service:

The exam for Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) will be held at two levels:

First level of the examination for Indian Railway Management Service Aspirants

 In the first stage, for Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) aspirants a preliminary exam will be done, it will be proceeded by a main written exam and an interview.

Second level of the examination for Indian Railway Management Service Aspirants

For the evaluation of candidates for second stage or main exam of Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) candidates, a written exam will be conducted. The eligible candidates need to sit for the Civil Services (Prelims) examination; the Indian Railway ministry has specified.

Number of candidates to be recruited after evaluation for IRMS exam

Overall, 150 candidates will be selected once the final evaluation will be done. Candidates will be recruited in four areas or realms.

Areas of IRMS recruitment

Four areas of IRMS recruitment are as follows:

  • Civil branch is going to have thirty candidates
  • Mechanical branch is going to have thirty candidates
  • Electrical branch is going to have sixty candidates
  • Commerce and Accountancy is going to again have thirty candidates

The IRMS main exam

The IRMS main exam will consist of four typical essay-type questions.The IRMS main examination paper will be further divided into two parts:

Part1- It will again consist of two parts-Part A and B

Part A of Part 1 one will have questions based on one of the Indian languages incorporated in the eighth schedule of our constitution, selected by the candidate out of his/her own free will. Part B of Part1 will deal with English. Both parts will carry the weightage of 300 marks each. So, the total marks assigned to papers of Part 1 will be 600 marks.

Part2-It will consist of two optional subjects.

 Optional subject 1 and optional subject 2 each will carry 250 marks in the IRMS main exam Part two. Hence, total marks assigned to optional subjects will be 500 marks. Finally, a personality test of 100 marks will be conducted for the for Indian Railway Management Service examination candidates.
