After dropping not-so subtle hints, actor Mithun Chakraborty on Sunday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of Bengal Assembly polls. The actor joined the party at Brigade Parade ground in Kolkata where Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mega rally is underway.

The development comes after BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya met the actor on Saturday evening at his Kolkata residence and announced that the actor will attend PM Modi's rally. He was present on stage with Chakraborty on Sunday as he welcomed Chakrabotrty into the party.

For the uninformed, Chakrbaorty was previously associated with Trinamool Congress. He was Rajya Sabha MP in 2014. However, his political career was short lived as the accounter resigned citing ailing health in 2016.

However, many believe that his decision came after his name appeared in the Saradha scam controversy as following the incident, he distanced himself from politics.

The actor is also active in Bollywood. He recently wrapped up the shoot of his upcoming film, The Kashmir Files. Notably, the actor had collapsed on the sets of the film while shooting which had led to the halting of the shoot for some time.
