Akhanda 2 Box Office Collection Day 1: Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 – Thaandavam finally hit theatres on Friday after multiple delays due to financial issues. Despite mostly negative reviews online, the film had a decent opening. Balakrishna’s loyal fans turned out in large numbers to support the sequel. While the movie delivered several high-energy moments, many scenes were called cringeworthy by critics.

As reported by Sacnilk, Akhanda 2 collected an estimated Rs 22 crore on its first day. The Telugu version earned Rs 21.5 crore, making up most of the total. The Tamil release added Rs 35 lakh, the Kannada version over Rs 4 lakh, and both Hindi and Malayalam versions contributed more than Rs 10 lakh each.

In Telugu-speaking states, the film opened with 56.93% overall occupancy. Morning shows started at 47.24%, dipped slightly in the afternoon to 46.18%, then rose to 60% in the evening and peaked at 74.30% at night. The Telugu 3D version recorded 36.75% occupancy.

In the Hindi belt, overall occupancy was 10.16%, with the 3D format slightly higher at 11.24%. Kannada theatres had 5.66% occupancy, Tamil Nadu recorded 14.71% for 2D and 43.96% for 3D, and the Malayalam version opened at 30.58% occupancy.

The Rs 22 crore opening is slightly higher than the first Akhanda, which earned Rs 21.20 crore on its debut in 2021. Including pre-release premieres worth Rs 8 crore, the total first-day collection comes to Rs 30.53 crore. The sequel fell a little short compared to Balakrishna’s last release Daaku Maharaaj, which opened at Rs 25.35 crore.

Critics and audiences had mixed reactions. Many praised Balakrishna’s explosive screen presence, the interval highs, and Thaman’s energetic background score. However, several others criticised the film for its directionless screenplay, illogical action, cheap VFX and cringeworthy dialogues. The sequel failed to match the magic of the original.

About The Sequel

Released on December 12, Akhanda 2 – Thaandavam follows Aghora returning from exile to stop a global biowarfare attack planned by a Chinese general and a strategist during the Maha Kumbh Mela. Balakrishna plays a dual role as Akhanda and his twin Murali Krishna. The cast also includes Harshaali Malhotra, Samyuktha Menon, Aadhi Pinisetty, Kabir Duhan Singh and Saswata Chatterjee.

While fans may enjoy the high-octane action and dramatic moments, the film faced criticism for over-the-top stunts (like Akhanda’s trident blocking machine-gun fire) and loud, overwhelming music. With a runtime of 166 minutes, viewers noted that the film can test patience, despite its mass-entertainment appeal.
