Akhanda 2: ‘Saved From Torture…’ Netizens React As Nandamuri Balakrishna Starrer Gets Called Off Hours Before Release Amid Rs 28 Cr Dispute

Akhanda 2 was called off just hours before release after the Madras High Court issued a stay over a Rs 28 crore dispute with Eros International. The sudden cancellation left fans shocked while netizens reacted sharply online.

Akhanda 2 release has been called off, and the news has created a huge shock in the Telugu film industry. The film was set for a global premiere on December 5, 2025. Fans were ready, theatres were prepared, and promotions were in full swing. But the Madras High Court stopped the release just hours before the first show. The injunction blocked the film from releasing in theatres and on any digital or satellite platform.

Akhanda 2 Release Cancelled Hours Before Release

The update came soon after the team cancelled the paid premiere shows across India. Soon after, the production house shared a short and emotional note.

They wrote, “With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that #Akhanda2 will not be releasing as scheduled due to unavoidable circumstances. This is a painful moment for us, and we truly understand the disappointment it brings to every fan and movie lover awaiting the film.”

As soon as the news dropped, netizens began trolling the makers. Many users brought up the long-pending dispute with Eros International. They pointed out the unpaid amount that is believed to have led to the court’s stay.

One user wrote, “Chill…audience were saved from the torture.”

Another said, “@ErosNowSouth filed a case against @14ReelsPlus for pending dues of 28cr. So madras court given stay on movie release.”

A third user added, “They can’t pay Rs 28 crore to Eros International and release it on the same day. Unexpected attitude from the producer.”

All About The Controversy

The dispute goes back to an arbitral award passed in July 2019. Eros International claims that 14 Reels Entertainment Pvt Ltd owes them around Rs 28 crore, plus 14% interest. The Madras High Court and the Supreme Court have already upheld this award. The amount is now a final and enforceable debt. Eros told the court that the producers have not paid anything for more than four years.

Eros also told the court that the company behind Akhanda 2, 14 Reels Plus LLP, is just a continuation of the old company. They said both companies are run by the same promoters. Eros argued that releasing the film without clearing the dues would help the makers earn money while avoiding repayment.

After hearing the arguments, the Madras High Court stopped the release. The order will stay in place until the dues are paid or the court reviews the decision. The ruling forced all shows and premieres to be cancelled across the world. The producers said they will announce a new release date once the issue is resolved. But for now, there is no update.

Massive Expectations Of Nandamuri Balakrishna Fans Takes A Hit After Akhanda 2 Delay

The stay has come at a time when Akhanda 2: Thaandavam had created strong buzz. The film recently received a U/A certificate, and fans were expecting a smooth release. As a sequel to one of the biggest mass entertainers in recent years, the Boyapati Sreenu–Balakrishna combo carried huge expectations.

Samyuktha plays the female lead, while Aadhi Pinisetty and Harshali Malhotra appear in key roles. Boyapati Sreenu directed the film. Thaman S composed the music, C Ramprasad handled cinematography and Tammiraju edited the film.

The first Akhanda was a massive hit, loved for Balakrishna’s powerful presence and Thaman’s energetic score. Balakrishna’s last film was Daaku Maharaaj and fans were eager to see him return in an intense avatar again.
