Alka Yagnik Hearing Loss: Singer Says ‘Still Suffering’

In a recent interview, Alka Yagnik shared that she is still dealing with the effects of her condition. She confirmed that the illness has prevented her from taking up new singing assignments.

She said to NDTV, “Composers approach me now and then. But I am not able to do it.”

The singer also admitted that she is “still suffering”, though she chose not to go into further details about her health. Her statement highlights how deeply the condition has affected her professional life.

The issue dates back to 2024, when Alka Yagnik revealed she had been diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), a rare condition. According to medical experts, this type of hearing loss is usually caused by damage to the inner ear or nerve pathways. In her case, it was triggered by a viral infection.

She recalled that the problem started suddenly after a flight, when she realised she could not hear properly. The condition came as a shock and forced her to step away from the spotlight.

Singer Had Earlier Warned Fans About Health Risks

In her earlier statement, Alka Yagnik also used her experience to warn fans and young artists about the risks associated with the profession. She highlighted how constant exposure to loud music and headphones can harm hearing over time.

In her note, she wrote, “I attempt to come to terms with it. Please keep me in your prayers. For my fans and young colleagues, I would add a word of caution regarding exposure to very loud music and headphones. One day, I wish to share the health perils of my professional life. With all your love and support, I am hoping to recalibrate my life and come back to you soon. Your support and understanding will mean the world to me in this critical hour.”

Despite her health struggles, Alka Yagnik continues to rank among the most-streamed singers worldwide. In fact, she topped global YouTube charts in 2022 with over 15 billion streams, and her songs still attract millions of listeners every week.

Her voice was last heard in Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra’s Netflix film Amar Singh Chamkila (2024), directed by Imtiaz Ali, where she sang “Naram Kaalja”, composed by AR Rahman.

Over the years, she has delivered countless hits such as “Ek Din Aap”, “Gali Mein Chand”, “Tip Tip Barsa Paani”, “Agar Tum Saath Ho”, “Chura Ke Dil Mera”, “Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai”, “Ae Mere Humsafar” and “Chaand Chupa Baadal Mein”.
