Anurag Kashyap’s much-awaited film Nishaanchi is set to release in theatres this Friday. The movie introduces audiences to Aaishvary Thackeray (the grandson of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray). It will clash at the box office with Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi’s Jolly LLB 3, which has a loyal fan base. What’s surprising is that the films sequel is already confirmed even before the release of first part.

Nishaanchi Sequel Confirmed

Nishaanchi stars Aaishvary Thackeray and Vedika Pinto and will be released in two parts. This format draws comparisons to Kashyap’s earlier hit Gangs of Wasseypur. Just like Gangs of Wasseypur 1 and 2, which released three months apart in 2012 and became box office hits, Nishaanchi ends on a strong note with a post-credits hint at part two. While there’s an excitement for the first part, questions remain about when the sequel will hit theatres.

Talking to IMDb, Kashyap described Nishaanchi as a way to “undo” perceptions from Gangs of Wasseypur. He joked that many assumed he invented swear words with GOW.

The director shared, “Nishaanchi for me is a throwback to all the Hindi cinema that I have loved growing up. Like until the 80s, 70s, 60s, from all the Dilip Kumar films to the Amitabh Bachchan films, to Mother India, Mughal-E-Azam, Naya Daur, Bimal Roy’s movies, and that was everything.”

Anurag Kashyap Praises Aaishvary Thackeray

Anurag Kashyap called Aaishvary a “phenomenal talent,” saying his performance in Nishaanchi is so natural that viewers would never guess he is from a political family. Aaishvary plays dual roles, Babloo and Dabloo, and Kashyap praised his full transformation. “We were so used to seeing him with long hair and a long beard. Suddenly, it was like a new person came out of it. That first walk is something that I will not forget,” Kashyap said.

Aaishvary, son of Smita and Jaidev Thackeray, chose films over politics. He started as an assistant director on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani in 2015 and trained extensively for his debut. He is also a composer, lyricist, and singer, contributing music to Nishaanchi.
