Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12, 2026, in Mumbai at the age of 92. She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest and breathing complications. Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news and said her last rites will take place at Shivaji Park in Mumbai.

The news has left the Indian film and music industry deeply shocked. Soon after, tributes started pouring in from across the country. Many celebrities and artists remembered her huge contribution to Indian music. Her death is being seen as the end of a golden era in playback singing.

Devendra Fadnavis Calls Asha Bhosle’s Death An Unfathomable Blow

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid an emotional tribute to Asha Bhosle while speaking to the media in Nagpur. He called her one of the greatest singers in the world and praised her lifelong dedication to music.

He also remembered her energy and passion even in her later years. He said she remained active in music until the age of 92. He highlighted that on her 90th birthday, she performed a three-hour concert, which showed her deep love for music and strong discipline.

While speaking to the media, Fadnavis said, “This is a very sad time for music lovers in India and across the world. With the passing of Asha Tai Bhosle, India has lost its second great musical star after Lata Didi. From childhood until the age of 92, she devoted her entire life to music, serving it till her last breath. Whether classical, pop, or rock, there was hardly any genre or language in India in which she had not sung. Her contribution of over 12,000 songs in more than 20 languages is unparalleled. Her passing is an irreparable loss not only to India but to the entire world of music.”

He further added, “She served continuously till the age of 92. On her 90th birthday, she gave a three-hour concert. She is one of the best singers in the world.”

Asha Bhosle And Her Journey In Indian Music

Asha Bhosle, the younger sister of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, had a career that lasted more than eight decades. She was known for her versatility and her ability to sing across different styles with ease.

She sang everything from classical songs and romantic melodies to ghazals, cabaret numbers, and peppy film tracks. Her voice became a key part of many hit films over the years.

Some of her most popular songs include ‘Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar’, ‘In Ankhon Ki Masti’, ‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’, ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’, ‘Duniya Mein Logon Ko’, and ‘Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main’. These songs are still loved by audiences today.

She recorded more than 12,000 songs in over 20 languages. Her voice was used for many top actresses, including Meena Kumari, Madhubala, Zeenat Aman, Kajol and Urmila Matondkar.
