Gave freedom to his protagonists
People close to the legendary director says he is known to have given a lot of freedom to his protagonists like Robert De Niro or Leonardo DiCaprio. In one of his interviews, Scorsese says that he cannot do everything immediately, now and at once. That is exactly why many of his films are mature and perfect.
The director is best known for films exploring the Italian American experience, migrants and organised crime. Mean Streets, Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs Of New York, The Departed and The Irishman are some of the films centred around the themes. His Raging Bull and Taxi Driver cemented Robert De Niro’s place in the American cinema.

Chronicler of violent American society
Cinema historians would say that Martin attracted attention at the onset of his career with films such as “Streets of Evil” and “Taxi Driver” presenting himself as a ‘chronicler of violent American society.’ He also had the ability to surprise his audience by creating musical gems like “New York, New York” or films with a touch of comedy like “The King of Comedy” and “In the small hours”.
However, in the year 1988, he stunned viewers by dealing with a serious and biblical theme like “The Last Temptation of Christ.” As recently as in 2016 he came up with a film enigmatically titled “Silence.”
To conclude, one is reminded of the fact that he once confessed that he wanted to be a priest but it would only be poetic justice to say that he continues to be the high priest of modern cinema.
