Union Minister and BJP MP Anurag Thakur has extended his support to Telugu superstar Allu Arjun amid escalating tensions between the BJP and the Congress-led Telangana government. The actor is under scrutiny following a stampede at a theatre during the premiere of his upcoming movie, Pushpa 2: The Rule.

Telangana Politics Sparks Debate Over Stampede Incident

Speaking to ANI, Mr. Thakur emphasized the significant contributions of Telugu actors to Indian cinema, remarking, “They have put Indian films on the global map. Yet, some people are trying to tarnish their image.” He highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Allu Arjun received a National Award, while megastar Chiranjeevi was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. “Films like RRR, Pushpa, KGF, and Baahubali have brought global recognition to Indian cinema. Instead of indulging in controversies, efforts should focus on dialogue, ensuring safety, and avoiding politics,” he added.

The controversy stems from recent actions taken by the Telangana police

Mr. Thakur’s remarks come amid strong opposition from Telangana Congress MLA Bhupathi Reddy, who issued a stern warning to Allu Arjun. Addressing a public meeting in Nizamabad, Mr. Reddy cautioned the actor to avoid commenting on Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, threatening to block the release of his films in the state if such comments persist.

The controversy stems from recent actions taken by the Telangana police, reportedly targeting Allu Arjun after the stampede incident. Mr. Thakur suggested that statements from Congress leaders cast doubts on the intentions of the state government.

This clash highlights the increasing politicization of cultural figures in Telangana, with the BJP accusing the Congress government of exploiting the situation to defame prominent personalities. As the debate continues, the focus remains on ensuring public safety while avoiding political exploitation of cinema and its icons.
