Blonde Trailer: Marilyn Monroe’s estate offers support to Ana de Armas over accent Criticism

Blonde Trailer: Blonde Starring Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe which is all set to premiere on Netflix on September 28, has become the talk of the town and is all set for its grand Debut!
Meanwhile, Blonde is Adapted from an eponymous 2000 novel by Joyce Carol Oates, and the film looks at Norma Jeane Mortenson’s journey to becoming a Hollywood icon- Marilyn Monroe. 

On July 28th, Netflix released the film’s official trailer, leaving the fans outraged. And why is that so?
Well as according to the audience, Ana de Armas, who is portraying the Hollywood icon, her accent did not entirely match Monroe’s iconic breathy tone. And the Internet is at War Over that.

Sharing her take on this, De Armas previously told The Times of London that she had spent nearly an entire year working on her Monroe accent for ‘Blonde’ before the filming actually started.

And the actor added, “It took me nine months of dialect coaching. Even some practicing and some ADR sessions (to get the accent right). It was a big torture, so exhausting. My brain was fried.”

Marilyn Monroe estate Defends

While Blonde is not authorised by Monroe’s estate, but the group stands by de Armas and offered her some support.

Marc Rosen who is the president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group and owns the Marilyn Monroe Estate Said, “Marilyn Monroe is a singular Hollywood and pop culture icon that transcends generations and history.”

He also added that, “Any actor that steps into that role knows they have big shoes to fill. Based on the trailer alone, it looks like Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity and vulnerability. We can’t wait to see the film in its entirety!”.

While Most of the complaints about de Armas’ from the viewer’s side noted that she maintained her Cuban accent, which is not how Monroe sounded. De Armas told an entertainment magazine in 2020 that Dominik’s decision to cast a Cuban actor as an American icon was “groundbreaking.” But it seems a lot don’t agree with this casting.

de Armas had once told a magazine that she had to audition for Marilyn’s role once and director Andrew Dominik just loved her!
